9 Signs Your Tradie Website Is Costing You Jobs in 2026

Most tradie websites in Australia are losing work every single day — and the owners have no idea. They check their site once a year, it still loads, so they assume it’s fine.

It’s not. We’ve audited 300+ local service sites in the last 12 months, and the same 9 problems come up over and over. Here’s what to look for — and how to fix each one before it costs you another month of work.

1. Your site takes more than 3 seconds to load on mobile

73% of people searching for a local tradie are on their phone. If your site takes more than 3 seconds to load, more than half of them bounce before seeing your phone number. Google’s PageSpeed Insights will tell you your score in 30 seconds — aim for green (80+).

The usual culprits: uncompressed images, a bloated page builder like Elementor with too many widgets, cheap shared hosting, and no caching. All fixable.

2. There’s no click-to-call button in the header

If a customer has to pinch-zoom to find your number, you’ve already lost them. Every tradie site in 2026 should have a tappable phone number in the top-right, visible without scrolling. Two taps from Google search to a ringing phone. That’s the standard.

3. Your home page doesn’t say what you do or where you work

“Welcome to Smith Electrical — quality service, professional results.” That’s not a headline. That’s a waste of the most valuable 50 characters on your website.

Your headline should say exactly what you do and where. “24/7 Emergency Electrician in Parramatta — on site within 60 minutes.” That’s a headline. A customer scanning 10 tabs knows in half a second whether to call you.

4. You have no Google reviews on the site

Your Google Business Profile might have 80 five-star reviews — but if none of them are on your actual website, visitors don’t see them. They’re making a decision in 15 seconds and they need social proof right there on the page.

Either embed your Google reviews with a widget (we use a lightweight one that pulls them automatically) or manually paste 3-5 of your best reviews with the reviewer’s first name. Even better: add a star rating badge in your header: “★ 4.9 from 87 Google reviews.”

5. Your services are a wall of text instead of clear tiles

Most trade sites list services as one long paragraph or a bullet list. It’s hard to scan and nobody reads it. The fix: 3-8 service tiles, each with a simple icon, a short name (“Blocked drains”), a one-liner (“Cleared from $195, same day”), and a Get a quote button.

This turns your services page from a description into a catalogue. Customers pick what they need and click. Your enquiry rate doubles overnight.

6. You’re not showing a price anywhere

Tradies often avoid putting prices on their site because “every job is different.” That’s true for some jobs, but your customers are anxious about calling someone with no price anchor. You lose the cautious buyers before they even ring.

You don’t need exact pricing. You need from pricing. “Hot water systems from $980 supplied and installed.” “Blocked drains cleared from $195.” “Same-day electrical callout, $89 fixed fee.” A starting number is enough to make people comfortable enough to call.

7. Your “About” page is all about you, not about them

Customers don’t care that you started in 2008 with one van and a dream. They care whether you’ll show up on time, charge a fair price, and not rip them off.

Rewrite your About page around what customers want to know: how long you’ve been in the area, your licence number (prominently — it’s a huge trust signal), your team size, your typical response time, and one short story of a recent job you did well. Keep it under 300 words.

8. You have no way to capture leads after hours

Half your website traffic happens outside business hours. If the only way to reach you is “call us between 8am and 5pm,” you’re ignoring half your market.

The fix is a simple lead form — name, phone, suburb, what they need — on every page. Email and SMS alerts fire instantly. You ring them back first thing the next morning and you’ve beaten every competitor who waits for them to call.

9. The site hasn’t been updated in years

Old sites telegraph everything you don’t want to telegraph: that you might be retired, that you don’t care about quality, that you’re behind the times. Customers compare you to the shiniest tradesperson they saw on Instagram this morning. If your site looks like 2014, they’ll pick the other person.

You don’t need a $10,000 redesign. You need a modern template applied to your existing content. That’s what we do — flat $199 to start, live in 7 days.
